that's a Harrier jet, which was the first VTOL aircraft extensively used by a modern military force, just FYI.

I thought the kestral was the firstVtol and the AV8 was the first widly used jump jet

well, the kestrel was the predecessor / prototype phase of the AV8 Harrier. The AV8 was updated to the GR7(?), but essentially it's still the same aircraft. so yeh, basically the same aircraft :p
